PAS Youth's actions towards concerts have shamed Malaysia, while DAP remains silent
In protesting against internationally renowned singer Sir Elton John, PAS Youth is displaying their narrow-mindedness as well as proving that their theocratic government and hudud enactment will restrict the rakyat's freedom. Besides that, their shameless behaviour has also given the wrong impression to the international community that Malaysia is an extremist and conservative country. This has hurt our nation's image and standing in the eyes of the world.
I would like to point out that because of the favourable response given at Elton John's concert in Malaysia last year, he was thus invited once again to perform here at Genting's Arena of Stars. Despite the fact that PAS Youth's protest last year failed, they still see fit to try again, even promising to expand their protests until the organisers are forced to cancel the show.
Their claims that Elton John's singing will encourage others to pursue immorality and to indulge themselves in illicit pleasure are utterly ridiculous and pure nonsense.
Why is DAP keeping silent?
Thus I challenge DAP to prove that they care about the rights and interest of the non-Muslims as enshrined in the Federal Constitution by stating their stand on PAS Youth's demands towards the coming Elton John concert. Should DAP continue to keep quiet and to avoid the issue, it will confirm that Malaysia's future will be that of an Islamic theocratic state under PAS.
Nothing wrong with Elton John's songs
In my opinion, the concert is suitable for people of all ages and concerts are nothing more than a form of innocent entertainment which will also help to boost Malaysia's tourism industry and economy.
However, PAS Youth has continuously organized protests against foreign artists claiming that the entertainment industry has been politicized. Two years ago, PAS Youth also had demonstrated at the concert ! of Ameri! can Idol winner Adam Lambert, even resorting to stepping on his pictures. This shameful act of theirs has embarrassed Malaysians everywhere and today, we see them once again protesting against Elton John. What sort of image of Malaysia does PAS Youth hope to portray to the world?
No matter what PAS believes in, it is wrong for them to go around imposing their policies onto others such as their strict rules on attire or segregating men and women at hair salons. These regulations of their have severely affected the non-Muslim community's rights, freedom and their lifestyles.
